Bangkok Location Guide

Jim Thompson
House Museum
Photography

You step through a gate and the city noise drops away. Teak houses rise on stilts above garden paths, the wood darkened with age and warm in the afternoon light. It looks and feels like a different Bangkok entirely.

What Makes This
Location Work

Jim Thompson House is a collection of traditional Thai houses that silk merchant Jim Thompson assembled from across Thailand in the 1950s and 60s. The elevated teakwood structures sit above lush gardens and feel like a different era entirely.

Photography is allowed in the gardens and exterior areas. Inside the main house it is restricted, so your session stays outdoors. The garden paths, wooden staircases, and light filtering through the foliage give you more than enough to work with.

30-40 mins at museum
+20 mins Art Center
4 floors + rooftop

The Art Center entrance is free and spans four floors plus a rooftop with galleries, open plazas, and terraces. The architecture is contemporary and clean, a strong contrast to the historic main house.

The garden paths, wooden staircases, and light filtering through the foliage give you more than enough to work with - all in a cultural setting that feels authentically Thai without being inside a temple.

Elevated teakwood structures on stilts, lush tropical gardens, and warm afternoon light on aged wood - this location does a significant amount of the visual work for you.

What to Wear

The location does a lot of the visual work for you. Teak wood, green foliage, and warm earthy tones fill the frame, so outfits that sit in the same colour family tend to come together really naturally.

Linen dresses and wide-leg trousers in olive green, soft beige, or warm taupe photograph beautifully here. A minimalist leather bag or sandal in a natural tan tone adds just enough detail. Flowing, resort-style pieces work well too: the softness of the fabric reads well against the aged wood and garden texture.

Bright synthetics and heavy patterns can pull focus away from the setting, so these tend to work against you rather than for you. On the practical side, the garden paths and teak walkways are uneven in places, so sandals with a strap are worth choosing over slip-ons.

3pm onwards

The Right Time to Shoot

We shoot at Jim Thompson House from 3pm onwards. The afternoon light is softer and more flattering against the teak surfaces, and the gardens are at their best in that window.
