A Day of Shooting
in Chiang Rai

Working as a photographer in Chiang Rai is different from anywhere else in Thailand. The temples here have completely distinct visual identities, and getting the most from them takes timing, positioning, and knowing which sections most tourists walk straight past.

Before the session we go through a route together. You pick the locations that interest you, or we put a plan together based on your travel style. Once the day starts, we move at a pace that lets you enjoy each place, not just tick it off a list.

A private vehicle is the right call here. Several of the most interesting spots sit up in the hills outside the city, and you won't reach them efficiently any other way. Your hotel can usually arrange one.

  1. 1We talk through your locations, style preferences, and what matters most to you from the day.
  2. 2We build a route that makes the best use of light and minimises travel between stops.
  3. 3We shoot. The pace is relaxed and the session is entirely yours.
  4. 4Your edited gallery arrives within 3 days via Google Drive.

Travel costs are covered

We book and pay for our own flights and accommodation. The price you see is the full price, nothing added for getting us there.

Know what to skip

Some popular stops in Chiang Rai are not worth your session time. We tell you which ones upfront so the day stays focused on places that actually deliver.

Four temples, four aesthetics

White, Blue, Red, and Black House each need a different approach. We know the angles, timing, and lesser-visited sections of each one.

Air Quality in Chiang Rai

Northern Thailand has a smoke season from roughly February through April, driven by agricultural burning across the region. March is consistently the worst month.

Chiang Rai sits in the far north, which puts it among the most affected cities during this period. On bad days the air is visibly hazy, smells of smoke, and spending hours outside is genuinely unpleasant.

Check conditions before you travel. IQAir monitors Chiang Rai in real time. If your dates are flexible, November through January gives the clearest skies and the best light for outdoor shooting.

Cancellation Policy

Rain on the day or an AQI above 150 means we reschedule or cancel with a full refund. No partial credits, no back-and-forth.

We'd rather cancel than deliver photos taken in flat, smoky light.

Best Photo Locations in Chiang Rai

The city and the hills around it offer real variety. These are the spots we use most, with honest notes on each one.

Temples

Four temples with completely different visual identities. This is the main reason people come to Chiang Rai for photography.

Wat Rong Khun White Temple Chiang Rai photoshoot
Our most-used location in Chiang Rai. Some sections get crowded but the complex is large. Most visitors don't know the Cave of Art or the Ganesha Worship Hall even exist. Those areas are quieter and have strong photo spots.
Wat Rong Suea Ten Blue Temple Chiang Rai photographer
The second most visited temple. Can be crowded, and getting a composition that works takes more skill. Certain angles hold up well. The deep blue exterior is striking under afternoon light.
Wat Huay Pla Kang Chiang Rai photoshoot
A dramatic red temple near the Guan Yin statue. Good photo opportunities around the grounds and worth pairing with the statue in the same stop.
Guan Yin statue Chiang Rai photographer
A tall white statue with dragons on both sides. Looks best around 3pm when afternoon sun hits it directly. Getting a good composition with a person posing takes skill. Skip the lift inside. The exterior is where the photos are.
Parks & Outdoors
Singha Park Chiang Rai photoshoot
Rent a golf cart or vintage car and drive a scenic loop. The full circuit takes 1.5 to 3 hours and passes cafes, a swan pond, art installations, flower fields, orchards, and lakes. Works well as a half-day stop on its own.
Open park that works well for family photos. Flowers are at their fullest from late December through mid-February. Still a pleasant green setting outside that window.
Museums & Cultural Sites
Multiple rooms covering Lanna history with a private guide included. We were there alone on our visit and it felt like a personalized tour. The interiors photograph well and the history is genuinely interesting.
Baan Dam Museum Black House Chiang Rai photographer
Skins, bones, wooden carvings, and dark interiors across a cluster of traditional buildings. The aesthetic is unlike anything else in the region. Worth a look and a few photos.
Cafes & Restaurants
Riverside restaurant with good food and a calm water setting. Works as a break during a longer session or a standalone stop for lifestyle shots.
Charming cafe near the airport and Baan Dam Museum. Easy to pair with the Black House if you're covering that part of the city.
Lalitta Cafe Chiang Rai photoshoot
A note before you go: almost always packed. Queues for the waterfall spot can run 40 minutes. Visit on your own time rather than as part of a photoshoot, or skip it entirely in favour of less crowded locations.
Hidden gem near the orange garden. Northern Thai food with Burmese influences, served in a genuinely cultural interior. You can wear traditional costumes while eating. Mountain views are outstanding.
Orchards & Plantations
November through February is when these spots are at their best. Cooler temperatures, fruit on the trees, vivid green hillsides.
Akha PhamiO orange garden Chiang Rai photoshoot
Working orchard with a restaurant and hotel. Hand-pick oranges straight from the trees, which makes for natural, candid shots. A solid off-the-beaten-path stop with good food nearby at Ozone Pamee.
Choui Fong tea plantation Chiang Rai photographer
Terraced tea fields with a good cafe on site. Better for drone footage than portrait photography, but a pleasant stop if you drink tea or want something scenically different from the temples.
Doi Chang, Elephant Mountain

A scenic mountain village about an hour from the city. Viewpoints, coffee farms, and small Buddhist parks. The drive up is part of the experience.

Doi Chang mountain village Chiang Rai photoshoot
Doi Chang Village
Mountain views and coffee farms. Two stops worth making: Mr. Black Cafe & Restaurant and Akha FarmVille.

Staying Overnight
We stayed at U SKY Hotel. Views are great but rooms get cold after sunset and there's no heating. Bring warm layers if you're staying up there.
Night Markets

Weekday markets are disappointing. Aim for Saturday or Sunday. More vendors, more energy, noticeably different atmosphere.

Hotels Worth Knowing

We haven't found a hotel in the city itself that stands out as a photo location. The most notable options are Anantara Golden Triangle and Four Seasons Tented Camp, near the Golden Triangle where Thailand, Laos, and Myanmar meet. Remote and expensive, but genuinely cinematic.

Places to Skip
Long Neck Karen Village: a tourist trap we don't recommend. Dull experience and doesn't produce worthwhile photography.

Why Book a Chiang Rai Photographer Through Us

We've been photographing across Thailand for over five years and know northern Thailand well. That means arriving in Chiang Rai knowing which sections of the White Temple stay quiet after 3pm, which side of the Guan Yin statue reads in afternoon light, and which cafes will eat your session time without delivering anything useful.

You work with the same photographer from the planning conversation through to gallery delivery. No assistants, no group bookings, and no other clients sharing the day with you.

Our travel is our expense. Flights and accommodation are covered in the price. Nothing extra gets added later.

  • Route planned around your interests, not a standard tourist circuit
  • Direct advice on what's worth visiting and what to skip

What Clients Say

"Did the 6-hour session covering the White Temple, Singha Park, and Oub Kham. The museum was completely unexpected. We were alone with a guide and it felt like a private tour. Got around 700 edited photos back in two days. The temple sections came out better than anything I could have managed alone."

Nantaporn Wichitchai
UX Researcher, Bangkok

"Came mainly for the temples and wanted photos that looked like the place, not tourist snapshots. The planning beforehand was useful. They told us upfront to skip the Karen village and focus on the Blue Temple in the afternoon instead. Photos matched exactly the mood we were going for."

Benedikt Rasmussen
Marine Surveyor, Copenhagen

"We split it over two days and hit Doi Chang on day two. The mountain drive alone was worth it. Cold at night but the views made up for that. Photos from both days came back within three days total. Really solid and I'd book again if we go back north."

Public Health Consultant, Atlanta
