Koh Phi Phi Photographer - Private Photoshoots on the Island

Koh Phi Phi gives you limestone cliffs, turquoise water, and a viewpoint over two bays. A Koh Phi Phi photoshoot here means the light, the water colour, and the locations all contribute to the final images.

We run private sessions for couples, solo travelers, and families, starting in the afternoon and running through golden hour. We travel to Phi Phi for booked sessions and also cover Phuket and Krabi.

Locations

Where We Shoot on Koh Phi Phi

Phi Phi has a compact layout, which makes it possible to cover several distinct environments in a single afternoon session. Beaches, viewpoints, and offshore bays are all within short reach of each other.

01

The Viewpoints

The hike up involves a long staircase at the start, followed by a trail lined with palms, flowers, and thick jungle greenery. We recommend including at least part of this hike in any afternoon session because the trail itself gives you strong photos before you even reach the top.

At the summit you get a wide panoramic view over both bays and the surrounding islands. Bring water and wear shoes you can move in. The climb takes 20-30 minutes. Plan to shoot on the way up, not just at the top.

02

Pi Leh Bay

Accessible by longtail or speedboat, Pi Leh is a lagoon enclosed by limestone cliffs with turquoise water you can swim in. In our experience shooting both, Pi Leh gives more freedom of movement than Maya Bay. The cliffs create natural framing on all sides, and it stays noticeably quieter than Maya Bay throughout the year - though December and January bring more boat traffic.

03

Wang Long Bay

A good option for combining swimming and snorkeling with landscape photography. Less visited than Pi Leh, so you often get the water to yourself. The late-afternoon light comes in at a clean angle and the water is shallow enough to stand and pose without effort.

04

Island Hopping

Several smaller islands sit within 20-40 minutes of Phi Phi by boat. Adding a boat transfer to your session gives you a completely different visual context - open water, smaller beaches, and shots that are hard to replicate from the main island. This works particularly well for model sessions and couples who want variety across a longer booking.

05

Long Beach (Had Yao)

The water around Phi Phi is noticeably clearer than Phuket and Krabi, and Long Beach shows that off well. It's quieter than the areas near the main pier, with fewer boats moving through the background of your shots. The open space here is easier to work with than the congested Tonsai side for portrait sessions and couples work.

Planning

How to Plan Your Koh Phi Phi Photoshoot

We recommend staying at least 3 days. Two nights works but leaves no buffer for weather changes. Three days lets you shoot in two different settings and still have time to actually explore the island.

Sessions start in the afternoon. We plan the route around your accommodation, session length, and preferred locations. Phi Phi is compact enough that we can move between several environments without burning time on long transfers.

If your trip includes Phuket, Krabi, or Koh Lanta, we cover all of them. Koh Lanta is a natural add-on for travelers doing a multi-island route through Krabi Province - the contrast between the two islands gives you a more varied gallery overall.

We shoot portraits, model sessions, pregnancy photography, and more — if your trip has a specific need, get in touch.

What helps us prepare your session

  1. Your travel dates and how many nights you're on Phi Phi
  2. Where you're staying (Long Beach or city side changes the starting point)
  3. The type of session you have in mind - beach, viewpoint, boat trip, or a mix
  4. Any specific locations you've seen and want to include
On the Day

What to Expect

We meet at your hotel or a nearby landmark and brief you on the route before we start. Direction and pose guidance run throughout the session - no experience in front of a camera is needed.

Golden hour on Phi Phi, particularly from the viewpoints or along Long Beach, gives a quality of light that makes a tangible difference in the final images. We time sessions to put you in position for that window. For landscape-heavy sessions, the late-afternoon sky above the limestone cliffs around Pi Leh adds a layer you can't replicate at other times of day.

We colour-grade every usable frame and include it in the delivery, sent via Google Drive within 3 business days of your Koh Phi Phi photoshoot. If you'd prefer a curated selection rather than the full delivery, we handle that cut too.

Accommodation

Where to Stay on Koh Phi Phi

The island splits into two main areas. Where you stay changes the feel of your trip and how we structure the day.

Area 01

City Center (Tonsai Village)

The most convenient location for restaurants, bars, and boat transfers. Hotels here are mostly dated - that's standard for smaller Thai islands. Rooms on the city side can stay loud until late at night because of bars playing music nearby. Worth factoring in if you have an evening session or want an early start the next day.

Area 02

Long Beach Area

Quieter, with a good beach directly outside your room. Food options nearby are limited - most visitors take the longtail into Tonsai at least once for a proper meal. The boat takes about 15 minutes: 100 baht during the day, 150 baht after sunset.

Hotels Worth Knowing

  1. Phi Phi The Beach Resort - Our top pick on Long Beach. Rooms are dated but the location is quieter than the city side, and the sea views from the upper rooms are the best on the island for that price point.
  2. Outrigger Phi Phi Island Resort - The highest-quality resort on the island. Isolated by jungle, which means more mosquitoes and less convenience getting to Tonsai, but the grounds are among the best on the island for portrait and couple photography.
  3. Saii Phi Phi Island Village Resort - Remote and well-designed. The beach can look sparse at low tide when the water pulls back, which is worth knowing if you're planning beach shots from the resort itself.
Reviews

What Our Clients Say

"The kids were 7 and 11 and I was genuinely not expecting them to cooperate. They did. We went up the viewpoint trail and ended at Long Beach - maybe 4 hours total. My husband is not a photos person and even he was happy with the results. Got the gallery 2 days after. A few of the shots are already printed and hanging."

"Honestly didn't know what to expect. We'd never done a couple shoot before and I was a bit sceptical. Pi Leh Bay was not what I imagined - way more interesting than the photos online suggest. The photographer was low-key about the whole thing which helped. Gallery came back clean, no over-editing."
Marco Dellatorre

"Solo trip. I travel alone a lot and wanted actual photos for once, not phone selfies. The 4-hour session was enough. What I didn't expect was how much the location does - the light at the viewpoint in the late afternoon is completely different from what you see during the day. About 80-90 shots I'd actually use. Good value."

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

What's the difference between shooting on Long Beach versus taking a boat to Pi Leh or Wang Long?
Long Beach gives you open shoreline, clear water, and natural framing from the tree line - it works well for relaxed couples and portrait work. Boat sessions to Pi Leh or Wang Long add limestone cliffs and a more enclosed, dramatic backdrop, but the transfer takes 20-30 minutes each way. For longer sessions we often combine both. For 4-hour bookings, we usually focus on one area to avoid spending too much time moving between them.
How does the viewpoint hike factor into the afternoon schedule?
We time the hike so you arrive at the top during the softer part of the afternoon light rather than in harsh overhead sun. The staircase at the start is steep, so we position it earlier in the session when energy is higher. The trail on the way up produces strong photos on its own, so the climb time is productive, not wasted.
Can we combine a Phi Phi session with Koh Lanta on the same trip?
Yes. Ferries run between the two islands daily. Many clients spend 2-3 nights on each and book a session on both. The visual difference between the two islands - Phi Phi's cliffs and clear water versus Lanta's longer, quieter beaches - makes the combined galleries noticeably more varied. Send us your full itinerary and we'll coordinate both sessions.
What happens if the weather is poor on the day of our session?
Peak season runs roughly November through April, with the most stable conditions in December and January. Outside that window, weather can shift without much warning. If conditions make shooting impractical, we move to another day in your trip. This is one of the reasons we suggest staying at least 3 nights - it gives us room to shift the session without disrupting your whole schedule.
Is the photo reel compiled from stills or filmed separately?
It's built from your session photos, not separate video footage. A 1-minute edit is compiled from the still images and reduces the delivered photo count by around 150 frames. Confirm at booking so we can factor it into how we shoot the session rather than treating it as an afterthought.
