What a Thai Costume Photoshoot in Bangkok Looks Like

You rent a traditional outfit near Wat Pho, the rental staff dress you and fit the accessories, with hair and makeup either done there in a traditional Thai style or by our own artist at your hotel beforehand, then we shoot at one or several temples around old Bangkok. A traditional Thai costume photoshoot in Bangkok runs from 1 to 4 hours and covers up to 5 locations.

We're a Bangkok-based team shooting temple sessions year-round. The page below covers pricing, the rental shops we work with, our most-booked routes, and which temples are practical for booked costume sessions.

We were a group of 4 and reserved makeup ahead like Jami suggested. Shoot ran smoothly across Wat Pho and the riverside. Locals were warm with us in costume and the photos look fantastic.

Picked the 4-hour package and hit Wat Benchamabophit, Loha Prasat, Wat Suthat, Wat Pho, then sunset. Got over 800 edited shots, and the route advice saved us from wasting time at Wat Arun.

  • Up to 2 Bangkok locationsWe plan locations in the same area, so travel between them is usually 5 to 15 minutes and most of your time goes into shooting.
  • 7 to 12 different photo spotsA location is a separate place we travel between. A spot is one setup inside it: a doorway, a staircase, a stretch of railing. One location usually gives several spots.
  • Up to 3 looks, in your own outfitsOptional. Most people shoot in one outfit. If you'd like more looks, this is the total, including the one you arrive in. Changes happen within your session time. We don't provide outfits.

How a Session Works

From Fitting to Final Photos

1

Pick Your Outfit

Visit One Day Master or another shop near Wat Pho. Choose the outfit and accessories, and decide where you want hair and makeup done.

2

Get Dressed and Styled

Shop staff dress you and fit the accessories. If you booked our artist instead, hair and makeup happens at your hotel first. Plan around 1 hour either way.

3

Shoot Your Route

Meet us at the first temple at the time that suits your day. We follow the route you booked, timing the finish for sunset by the river when possible. Add 15 minutes to your expected arrival time, more if it has just rained.

4

Receive Your Photos

Standard delivery is 3 days, and the two longer packages are delivered within 24 hours. High-resolution files, ready for print or social.

Who Will Photograph You

The Team Behind Your Session

One photographer covers your whole session, from the rental shop to the river at sunset. For costume shoots that is usually Kitsana or Jami. Read more about the Lukfoto team and how we work.

Kitsana

She comes from journalism and documentary work, including reporting for Business Insider and community storytelling exhibited in Washington, D.C. She watches the small details of a temple, like a carved door or the light on a chedi, and places you inside them. She speaks Thai, English and Mandarin, so she can talk with shop staff and temple guards for you.

Jami

She has shot since 2016 and studied fashion communication at NIFT in India. She leads hair, makeup and styling on the team, so she checks how your outfit, colour and accessories work against each temple. Book her if you want a more styled, editorial set. She speaks English and Hindi.

Experience

The team has run 1,250+ sessions since 2021. About 99% of clients arrive with little or no camera experience, so we guide every pose. You can ask for Kitsana or Jami by name when you book.

Where We Actually Shoot

These are the routes our clients book most often. They're built around good light, manageable distances, and locations where costume sessions are practical and permitted.

  2. Sunset by the river
Alternative: Loha Prasat + Wat Saket

Full Heritage Tour

The full route across old Bangkok, finishing at golden hour by the river:

  1. Wat Benchamabophit
  2. Loha Prasat
  3. Wat Suthat
  4. Wat Pho
  5. Sunset by the river

Entrance fees are paid on the day and include our ticket: Wat Pho 300 THB, Wat Suthat 100 THB, Wat Benchamabophit 100 THB, Loha Prasat 20 THB.

Loha Prasat's inner section closes in the late afternoon, so it always comes early in the route. Fees and hours checked October 2026.

Why We Usually Don't Build Routes Around Wat Arun or the Grand Palace

Both can be extremely busy, with queues and heavy foot traffic making a tightly timed session less efficient. We usually build our routes around Wat Pho, Loha Prasat, Wat Suthat and Wat Benchamabophit instead, distinctive historic settings with more room to work.

Other Temples Worth Shooting

If you've already done the main route or you're staying somewhere specific, these temples are worth adding. Tell us what you're after and we'll suggest the best fit.

Wat Paknam

Best for the giant Buddha and a compact set of distinctive frames. Most clients combine it with a longtail canal cruise in costume, which gives the session a completely different feel. It's far out with few spots, so we usually suggest alternatives unless you specifically want it.

Wat Bowonniwet

Worth a quick stop for a couple of strong shots. Easy add-on to an old town route. It closes at 4pm, so it has to come early in the route.

Wat Sitaram

Different look from the major temples. Has its own character if you want something off the standard list.

Wat Hua Lamphong

A convenient option if you want to combine a temple session with parks, rooftops, or other city locations nearby. 40 THB entrance, and 5 to 15 minutes from Chinatown, Lebua, Lumphini and One Bangkok.

Wat Suthiwararam

Quiet, visually rich, and rarely on tourist itineraries. Worth checking if you're staying near Asiatique.

Wat Prayun

Distinctive architecture, located near Wat Arun. If Thai temple architecture is a major part of what you want to photograph, this one belongs on your list.

Erawan Museum

The famous elephant landmark. We shoot there regularly, about 20 minutes from The Ancient City.

Maximum 1 hour, from 3pm, wrapping about 5:30pm, because the ticket counter closes at 5pm. About 500 THB for adults and 250 for children. Avoid weekends because of the staircase queue. Costume rental on site.

The Ancient City (Muang Boran)

Essentially a temple park where you can spend a full day. Far easier to shoot than the Grand Palace or Wat Arun, with no queues.

Minimum 2 hours, and it's 40 to 60 minutes from most hotels. Tickets are about 700 to 800 THB for adults and 350 to 400 for children, cheaper on Klook. Costume rental is available at the entrance. Open 9am to 7pm, last tickets at 6pm (checked October 2026).

Wat Nak Prok

A real gem, with unusually creative architecture and a look unlike anything else on this list.

Wat Sam Phran

The dragon tower temple with strong views. Located far from the centre, so plan your day around that area if you want it. About 30 minutes of shooting, and a 2-hour package is needed to add a nearby cafe.

Ayutthaya

Best suited to clients who specifically want historic ruins and an archaeological feel. For costume work alone, The Ancient City generally gives us more visual variety in one location. Minimum 4 hours, and we recommend a private driver at about 4,000 THB, which we can help arrange. It's ruins and very hot, so it suits sightseeing more than photos.

Wat Ratchabophit (restricted)

Commercial costume sessions are not permitted here, so we don't include Wat Ratchabophit in our booked routes.

Where the Outfit Comes From

Renting Your Outfit

All shops carry full sets for women, men and children, plus accessories. Sizes run up to XXXL.

A Thai costume photoshoot in Bangkok usually starts at one of the rental shops beside Wat Pho, a few minutes from where we begin. Outfits run about 300 to 500 THBThese are the shops’ own rates, not ours, and they change without notice. Treat them as a guide, and we confirm current pricing when we call ahead for you. depending on the shop and style. The one we recommend most is One Day Master, a 2-minute walk from the temple and about a 1-minute walk from our riverside sunset spot.

There is also a rental shop beside Milky Tree Coffee near Loha Prasat, with outfits from around 300 THB. Useful if you start from that side of the old city.

Planning costumes with an evening session? The rental shops beside Wat Pho close at 6pm. If you want costume frames and Chinatown neons in the same booking, tell us early. We find a shop open until 8pm and check the costume can be returned just after we finish.

We shoot these sessions weekly, so we can call ahead and confirm availability for you.

FAQ

Common Questions

What will I pay on the day, on top of the session?

Budget for the outfit, about 300 to 500 THB per person, hair and makeup if you want it, and the temple entrance fees on your route, which include our ticket. The Old Town Trio, for example, comes to 20 + 100 + 300 THB per ticket. On the 1-hour and 2-hour packages, add a Grab or tuk-tuk between temples.

What time of day do you shoot?

We shoot any time of day. Late afternoon into sunset gives softer light, quieter temples and the best golden hour at the river spot, but we build the route around whatever window works for you. Night sessions are optional, and need planning if you want them in costume.

Where is hair and makeup done?

Two options. The rental shop does it on site in a traditional Thai style, around 1,300 THB at their own rate, with an advanced hairstyle about 300 THB more. Or one of our own artists comes to your hotel beforehand for a more modern, natural look, from 4,000 THB. Either way, allow about an hour before the session starts.

Do I need to book in advance?

Yes for the session. For the rental shop, walk-ins are fine in low season. Groups of 3 or more for hair and makeup must reserve ahead, otherwise you'll wait or get turned away.

Can I switch out of the outfit mid-session?

Yes. We can help you return it to the shop and continue in your own clothes if there's time left.

Who will photograph us?

One photographer covers your session, usually Kitsana or Jami. Kitsana speaks Thai and handles the shop and temple staff for you. Jami is the one to ask for if you want a styled look with hair and makeup planned in.

Are there rules for shooting in the temples?

Yes. Most temples on our routes allow costume sessions, but Wat Ratchabophit does not permit commercial costume shoots, so we leave it out. Take your shoes off before you enter a hall, and keep voices low near people who are praying.

When do we get the photos?

The 1-hour Sabai gallery arrives within 3 days, with up to 200 edited photos. Sanook (up to 400) and Sawasdee (every usable photo) arrive within 24 hours.

Ready to Book Your Session?

Tell us your dates, group size, and which package suits you. We'll handle the route and recommend the rental shop.
