Jim Thompson
House Museum
photoshoot
Teak houses on stilts, garden paths, and warm afternoon light, in the middle of the city. A quiet location with strong texture and a real Thai character.
Teak, garden & afternoon light
What this location gives you
Photography is allowed in the gardens and exterior areas. Inside the main house it is not, so the session stays outdoors. The garden paths, wooden staircases, and light through the foliage give us plenty to work with.
The Art Center next door is free to enter and adds a contemporary contrast: four floors plus a rooftop with open plazas and terraces.
Elevated teakwood houses on stilts, lush gardens, and warm afternoon light on aged wood. The location does most of the visual work for you.
The Art Center entrance is free. Contemporary architecture, clean lines, a strong contrast to the historic side.
Quiet enough to shoot without crowds in frame, and a cultural setting that feels Thai without being inside a temple.

entry
Entry to the main museum is the same price for all nationalities. The gardens and exterior are self-guided.

Colours that work with teak and foliage
What to wear
The location is full of teak, green foliage, and earthy tones. Outfits in the same colour family come together very naturally on camera.
Linen dresses and wide-leg trousers in olive green, soft beige, or warm taupe photograph well here. A leather bag or sandal in a tan tone adds just enough detail.
Avoid bright synthetics and loud patterns, they pull focus off the setting. The garden paths and teak walkways are uneven in places, so sandals with a strap are smarter than slip-ons.
The right time to shoot
We shoot at Jim Thompson House from 3pm onwards. Afternoon light is softer on the teak surfaces, and the gardens look their best in that window.
