A practical walkthrough of the booking process, from choosing the right studio type and photographer to confirming your session, preparing on the day, and receiving your images.

Furnished natural-light studio room in Bangkok ready for a portrait session

Step 1: Define What You Actually Need

Before you look at a single studio or photographer, be clear on two things: the purpose of the images and who is being photographed.

Purpose: A LinkedIn headshot, a family portrait for print, a maternity session, a product catalogue, and a model portfolio all have different requirements. The purpose determines the lighting style, the studio type, the session length, and whether you need a plain backdrop or a styled room. Getting this wrong upfront is the most common reason people end up unhappy with their images.

Who is being photographed: Solo, couple, small family, large family, or a group production? The number of people affects which studio is appropriate, how long you need, and whether you need more than one photographer or additional crew.

Step 2: Choose the Right Studio Type

Bangkok has two main types of photo studio:

Furnished natural-light studios

These look like real decorated rooms and rely primarily on window light. They produce warm, lifestyle-quality images and suit portrait sessions, maternity photography, personal branding, boudoir, and lifestyle content. Examples in Bangkok include MostlySunny (near ICONSIAM, from ฿850/hour) and Mitr Studio (near Don Mueang, from ฿1,500/hour).

Backdrop studios with controlled artificial light

Plain white, black, or coloured walls with professional strobe or continuous lighting. Full control over the result regardless of weather or time of day. These suit headshots, comp cards, product photography, and commercial work. Ketchup Studio (On Nut, ฿1,000/hour) is a practical mid-tier option. Cinnamon Studio (near Asiatique, ฿2,500 to ฿3,000/hour) offers professional-grade equipment for larger productions.

Step 3: Book a Photographer, Not Just a Studio

A common mistake is booking the studio first, then trying to find a photographer to fit it. The better approach is to start with the photographer, because an experienced photographer will recommend the right studio for your project and handle the reservation.

When evaluating a photographer for a studio session, look at three things:

  • Their portfolio specifically in studios. Outdoor photography and studio photography are different skills. Look for evidence of the kind of session you are booking.
  • How they direct subjects. The best studio images come from subjects who are relaxed and naturally positioned. Look at whether people in the portfolio appear genuine or stiff.
  • Communication responsiveness. Studio sessions require coordination involving timing, studio booking, and add-ons. A photographer who takes three days to respond to an inquiry will create problems when real coordination is needed.

Step 4: Confirm the Details Before Paying

Before making any payment, confirm the following in writing:

  • The exact studio, room, and date/time
  • Session duration and what is included (editing, RAW files, delivery timeline)
  • The deposit amount and cancellation/rescheduling terms
  • Whether the photographer handles the studio booking or whether you do
  • Any add-on services and their separate pricing

When you book through us, all of the above is confirmed before a deposit is taken. Studio coordination, photography, makeup and hair, styling, and model hire are all managed through a single booking.

Step 5: Add Services That Improve Your Images

Three add-on services meaningfully improve the quality of studio photography. All three can be booked alongside your photography session.

Makeup artist and hair styling

Camera-ready makeup is not the same as everyday makeup. Products that look natural to the eye can read differently under studio lighting. An in-house makeup artist who works regularly with the same photographer understands how the lighting is set up and adjusts accordingly. This shows in the images. Starting from ฿3,000.

Fashion styling and wardrobe consultation

What you wear in a studio session has an outsized effect on the final images. Patterns conflict with each other in group shots, certain colours absorb or reflect too much light, and proportions that look fine in a mirror can read differently on camera. A stylist eliminates these problems before the session starts. Starting from ฿1,490.

Video and reels

Studio sessions produce excellent conditions for short-form video content. Adding a reel to a photography session means leaving with material for Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube in a single booking. See video options.

Step 6: What to Expect on the Day

A well-run studio session follows a predictable structure:

  1. Arrival and setup (15 to 20 minutes): Change into your first outfit, makeup touch-ups if applicable, brief discussion with the photographer about the plan and any specific shots you want.
  2. Shooting: The photographer directs you through positions, expressions, and transitions.
  3. Outfit changes: If you have multiple looks, changes happen during the session. All studios we work with include a dedicated changing and makeup area.
  4. Review: Most photographers show you selected images on-camera during the session so you can confirm you have what you need before leaving.
  5. Editing and delivery: Standard editing is 3 days. Express 24-hour delivery is available. Images are delivered via private Google Drive link.

Booking as an International Client

A significant proportion of our studio sessions are with international visitors to Bangkok: professionals on work trips who need updated headshots, families visiting Thailand who want professional portraits, and brands sending creative directors for commercial productions.

  • Same-week appointments are available. Studios in Bangkok do not require the lead times common in Western markets.
  • Express 24-hour editing is included in our Sanook and Sawasdee Deluxe packages. You can leave Bangkok with your images already delivered.
  • Payment by Wise, Revolut, or card is accepted. Cash in Thai Baht is preferred for the balance after the session.
  • All communication can happen via WhatsApp, LINE, or email. We respond same-day in almost all cases.
